Summary of the situation in the Americas Region In 2026, between epidemiological week (EW) 1 and EW 21, 163 confirmed cases of diphtheria were reported, including five deaths in the Americas Region, reported between three countries: Brazil (n= 2 cases), Haiti (n= 159 cases, including five deaths), and Peru (n= 2 cases) (1–3).
