Dengue fever

Dengue in American Samoa — the territory's government declared a public health emergency on 8 July 2025 after confirming 6 cases, the first DENV-2 circulation since 1972. As at 17 February 2026, the Department of Health reported 782 laboratory-confirmed cumulative cases, according to territorial epidemiologist Adam Konrote; the majority of infections are among children aged 11 to 15, and transmission remains active with disease activity still classified as high. No deaths have been reported. Case counts grew from 409 (20 June-18 November 2025, 179 hospitalised, 44%, per a CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service conference abstract) to 782 by mid-February 2026. As of 11 June 2026, American Samoa remained one of 6 Pacific Island Countries and Territories reporting active dengue outbreaks (alongside Kiribati, New Caledonia, Samoa, Tonga and Tuvalu).
