Dengue fever

Dengue in Wallis and Futuna — the territory's Agence de santé declared a dengue epidemic in mid-May 2026, and it is still running. As at 17 July 2026, 47 cumulative confirmed and probable cases had been recorded since the start of the year: 27 in Futuna and 20 in Wallis. The mean age of cases is 31 years and about 9% required hospitalisation; no deaths have been reported. Circulation started in Futuna in early April and has since slowed there, while transmission has picked up in Wallis. The main vector is Aedes polynesiensis, long established in the territory. WHO's Dengue Situation Update 751 (6 August 2026) also flags an increase in dengue-like illness for Wallis and Futuna in its Pacific syndromic surveillance.
