On 11 June 2026, the Kerala State Health Department confirmed one laboratory-confirmed case of Nipah virus (NiV) infection in Kozhikode district, Kerala State, India. The case, an adult male, developed symptoms on 30 May 2026, was hospitalized on 10 June, and presented with neurological manifestations requiring ventilatory support in an intensive care unit (ICU). Treated with ribavirin and monoclonal antibody therapy, he recovered and was weaned off ventilatory support, with three consecutive negative Nipah tests. Kerala lifted Nipah surveillance in the affected area (Ramanattukara Municipality) on 22 July 2026 after 42 days without further cases.
