Circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2) detected in Gaza Strip sewage from July 2024 (Khan Younis, Deir al-Balah); first paralytic case confirmed 16 August 2024 in a 10-month-old child, the first polio case in the territory in 25 years. Multiple WHO/UNICEF emergency vaccination campaigns conducted amid active conflict and severely damaged water and sanitation infrastructure (Sept 2024, Oct-Nov 2024, Feb 2025). Most recent environmental detection: 5 March 2025. WHO's Polio IHR Emergency Committee (44th meeting, 4 March 2026) continues to classify the occupied Palestinian territory as a cVDPV2-infected state.
